On 5 April 2026, a Rohingya girl was detained by the members of the Arakan Army in Maung Gyi Taung village, Buthidaung Township, Arakan (Rakhine) State, according to local sources. The incident occurred at around 3:25 PM.
The girl was identified as Nur Begum (17), daughter of Solim. Residents reported that she was taken from the village in the afternoon, though no explanation was provided for her detention.
A local resident said, “We don’t know why she was taken, and her family is very anxious about her safety.” The reason for the arrest remains unclear.
Arbitrary detentions of Rohingya civilians, especially girls have been reported repeatedly across Buthidaung, creating a growing sense of insecurity. These incidents have happened before and there is no security for Rohingya muslims.
This incident reflects a recurring pattern in northern Arakan: arbitrary arrest, disappearance and then face their (AA) torture. The absence of charges, due process, and accountability allows such acts to occur without scrutiny.
For Rohingya communities in Maungdaw, disappearance of the rohingya girl reinforces a growing reality; detention under Arakan Army control can lead not to investigation, but to disappearance and torture, with no explanation and no justice.
