On 27 March 2026, two Rohingya men were detained and later found dead in Maungdaw Township, Arakan (Rakhine) State, in an incident involving members of the terrorist Arakan Army, according to local residents and eyewitnesses.

The victims were identified as Mohammed Younus (19), son of Boshir Ahmed, and Mohammed Salam (22), son of Abdul Amin, both from Tha Yet Oke village. They had been working at a fishing lake in an area locally known as Abojah Fara and were arrested around 7:00 PM while returning home.

Eyewitnesses reported that AA members arrested the two men and beat them severely.

This incident reflects a recurring pattern in northern Arakan; arbitrary arrest followed by disappearance and, in some cases, death. The absence of charges, due process, and accountability allows such acts to occur without scrutiny.

For Rohingya communities in Maungdaw, the killing of these two young men reinforces a growing reality; detention under Arakan Army control can lead not to investigation, but to disappearance and death, with no explanation and no justice.
